|LINDEN - Tilia europaea
Traditional use: uplifting emotional tonic, diaphoretic, calmative, anti-anxiety, migraines
Linden trees are large shade trees, living up to 1,000 years, native to Europe but planted extensively here in the Northwest, where their fragrant Spring flowers can perfume a whole neighbourhood.
Linden, also called Limeflower, is classic European herbal remedy, whose gentle but effective action and pleasant taste have made it revered for centuries. It is calming and even sedative, while also acting to open circulation and skin pores to cool the body. This makes it useful in the initial phase of minor illnesses, when a fever causes agitation, but rest is needed. It combines well with Elder for this use.
Linden's emotional and subtle properties are equally useful, creating effects of both calmness and joy, and easing all types of mental and emotional upset, tension, and distress. It is particularly helpful in tension-related digestive upset, and for migraine headaches, and can be used long-term for high blood pressure or hypertension. For emotional balance or to treat migraines, use Linden with Tibetan Rhodiola. For cardiovascular balance, Linden works well with Passionflower and Hawthorne.
