GUGGUL - Commiphora mukul
Traditional use: immune tonic, detoxification, anti-infective, nerve tonic, anti-inflammatory, purification of all tissues

Guggul is an Ayurvedic herb related to Myrrh, and used for many of the same infection-related problems, but is considered to have much less of the potential for toxicity than Myrrh. It is reputed to have strong purifying powers, and to disinfect secretions, clear and heal the skin and mucus membranes, clear the lungs, and to catalyze new tissue growth, especially of the nerves.

Its cleansing powers are also used when there is a buildup of toxins, such as tumors, fats, or dead tissue, and it is considered especially helpful in arthritis. In clinical studies, Guggul has also been shown to reduce cholesterol.
